Research on this item reveals Karl to have been a crew-member of U613. It was sunk on 23rd July 1943, in the mid Atlantic, south of the Azores, in position 35.32N – 28.36W by depth charges from the American Destroyer USS George E. Badger. All 48 hands were lost.
